EV charging design
Welcome to Fueling the future with Koen Elands, Product Owner at Peblar. We speak to Koen about the design process behind a Peblar charger, and the first time he saw a Peblar charger in person.
How does the design process of the Peblar charger look?
So when we started the design, we already knew that there were a lot of good chargers in the market already, which have nice features. But we noticed that there were not a lot of chargers that were visually appealing, in our opinion.
So we reached out to a design company, we sat together, we looked at our core values, what feeling do we want to give to our Peblar users and also end users. We came up with this design which is, we believe, also appealing to the eye when it's mounted to your house.
What makes your product design stand out from other EV chargers?
At Peblar we believe that aesthetics are very important. So we really put effort in the outside of the charger but also on the inside. It needs to be convenient, especially for our installers, and for installers in general.
We believe that it should not only look good and have nice features, but also be easy to install, so that installers also benefit from our design. So for the inside, we put a lot of effort in making a very sleek design where the installer only needs to mount the cable and the appliance. And that's it, so that they can move on to the next installation, hopefully within 10 or 20 minutes.
What were your thoughts when you saw the Peblar charger for the first time?
The very first time that I saw the Peblar, we were very very happy with the team. All parts came together from all different departments that worked on the product, all came together, we assembled it.
Finally we had the product in hand, it was really what we visualised in the renders during our design phase. We were like 'yeah, this is how the Peblar should look and feel like' and when we had it in our hands, that was really the moment like 'yes, this is what we wanted to achieve'. So it was very satisfying moment for the team.
