You can automate a lot of processes, but when there is a question or a problem, customers also simply want to be able to talk to someone. That availability and personal support are hugely valued.

Laadkompas supports private and business customers with everything around electric charging: from choosing a charging station to charging management, charge cards, cost settlement and support after installation. The company is also active as a registration service provider for ERE certificates, the Dutch renewable energy units for transport. With this broad range of services, Laadkompas has grown into an important player in a fast-changing charging market.

We spoke with Kishen Thakoersingh, business developer at Laadkompas, about the development of the company, the collaboration with Peblar and his view on the future of smart charging.

Personal support as the distinguishing factor

Although digitalisation plays an important role, personal contact remains essential according to Laadkompas. Where many providers bet on automated support, Laadkompas deliberately chooses availability and direct customer contact.

When a charging station reports a fault, the team can spot and assess it. If needed, an installer from the national network is brought in.

You can automate a lot of processes, but when there is a question or a problem, customers also simply want to be able to talk to someone. That availability and personal support are hugely valued.

This approach appeals to a broad audience: from private EV drivers and independents to hotels, banks, rental companies and logistics organisations. With more than 100,000 users, Laadkompas has built a solid position and has the ambition to keep growing.

The first encounter with Peblar

The collaboration between Laadkompas and Peblar started when a customer with several Peblar charging stations asked whether they could be connected to the Laadkompas platform. The migration was carried out successfully and formed the basis for further collaboration.

"The first concrete step was a customer who wanted to move his Peblar charging stations to our platform. When that proved to work, we immediately saw more possibilities for the collaboration."

Since then, Laadkompas sees Peblar charging stations at customers more and more often. According to Kishen, the feedback from installers and end users is strikingly unanimous: the charging stations are easy to install, reliable in use and need little service.

Reliability as the basis

For a CPO, reliability is essential. After all, faults lead to extra support requests and a poorer user experience. That is why Laadkompas looks critically at the quality of the charging stations it supports.

According to Kishen, installers value how easy Peblar is to install, while end users mainly rate the reliable operation and the design positively. Laadkompas also sees the Peblar Dual as an interesting solution, especially for business locations.

"With one grid connection point you create multiple charging options and use the available infrastructure more efficiently. Certainly with the current challenges around grid capacity, that is an interesting advantage."

Using available energy intelligently

According to Laadkompas, grid congestion is becoming one of the biggest challenges for further electrification in the Netherlands. Attention is shifting more and more from just charging to smart charging: matching charging sessions to energy tariffs, grid capacity and locally available energy.

ERE certificates play a growing role in this too. EV drivers need a charging station with a MID meter and a party that handles the administrative processing. As both CPO and registration service provider, Laadkompas supports both parts. Kishen expects ERE certificates to increasingly encourage drivers to charge at the right moments.

"The challenge is not only to install more charge points. Above all, we have to make smarter use of the energy that is available. That is where charging stations, management platforms and energy management come closer and closer together."

Laadkompas sees this development particularly in the logistics sector, where companies increasingly combine charging management, energy management and ERE certification.

Keep developing together

According to Kishen, collaboration between manufacturers, platform parties and users becomes more important as the market professionalises further.

"We are close to the end user and see which questions come up in practice. Peblar has the product knowledge and development power. If you bring those two worlds together, you can really strengthen each other."

What started with the migration of a few charging stations has grown into a collaboration in which both parties complement each other. Peblar delivers reliable and smart hardware, while Laadkompas brings valuable insights from daily customer contact, charging management and ERE services. Together they work on charging solutions that are ready for the future of electric driving.
