Why does our charging cable look thinner than traditional electrical cables?

Written by Peblar | Mar 3, 2026 3:09:42 PM

A thin, purpose-designed AC charging cable that is easier to handle, while still delivering high performance, long-term durability, and full safety compliance.

What type of EV charging cable have we selected
for our products — and why?

A key reason we selected this cable is its lightweight, easy‑to‑handle design, which
makes plugging in your EV noticeably more comfortable in daily use. Our chargers use the CHARX connect eco AC charging cable from Phoenix Contact. This cable has been specifically developed for EV AC charging and is commonly accepted in the industry. The design of both the cable and connector is optimized to what is technically essential. As a result, the cable is slimmer and lighter than traditional electrical cabling, while still fully meeting all performance and safety requirements.

Are these thinner cables compliant?

The CHARX connect eco cable complies with all relevant international standards and legal requirements for AC charging, including:
  • IEC 61851 (electric vehicle conductive charging systems)

  • IEC 62196 (plugs, socket-outlets, vehicle connectors)

  • EU RoHS and REACH directives

  • CE marking

  • CB certification by accredited test laboratories

This ensures safe and reliable operation for private and semi-professional use.
Although the cable uses a reduced conductor cross-section, it has been specifically selected and engineered to meet the requirements of IEC 62196.

This ensures the charging cable remains safe and efficient even during continuous use, with no risk of overheating—provided it is used in accordance with the product specifications.

Which exact cable is used in Peblar chargers?

Peblar integrates the following Phoenix Contact cable:
  • Product line: CHARX connect eco

  • Cable type: CHARX ET2C-3AC20-xxxESyzzzz

How can I identify the cable on my charger?

The connector of your Peblar charger clearly displays the cable type and serial number, allowing easy identification.

Where can I find official documentation from Phoenix Contact?

Detailed technical information, including the multilingual Certificate of Conformity (CoC), is available via Phoenix Contact.

Compliance is the foundation of everything we build. With full IEC certification and rigorous testing against overheating, our slimmer cables are designed to handle continuous use in any environment. For additional background, we also recommend the Phoenix Contact brochure.
