By reducing complexity through full integration at product,- and production level enables Peblar to exceed market standards. ‘EV chargers from Peblar excel on reliability.’
With the production of Peblar, we have entered a crowded market of providers - for that, a good dose of business guts seems to be necessary. Yet Patrick Kelder, Managing Director at Peblar, sees it slightly differently. He prefers to speak of a well-considered step, based on great confidence in the company's own product and positive feedback from customers. Kelder: ‘Peblar has a solid foundation. For our parent company, Prodrive Technologies, we have been producing customer-specific charging solutions since 2019. With this success and experience, the decision to release chargers under our own brand was a no-brainer. That's why we launched Peblar.'
According to Kelder, the fact that there is still room for quality improvement was evident from his own research: ‘With our background, we are able to exceed market standards. Unlike many of our competitors, we have all the competences in-house to design products ourselves. We can then test and further develop them in every possible way.' This is done, says Kelder, entirely in-house, at Prodrive Technologies' state-of-the-art, highly automated production campus in Eindhoven. Kelder: ‘We use our parent company's facilities. It is an optimal process in all respects in which we are in full control from A to Z and therefore less dependent on third parties in the supply chain. This brings great benefits. Instead of needing ten parts that you have to screw and connect together, we can integrate our own components into one. The entire Peblar charging system is integrated into one Printed Circuit Board (PCB). This makes our EV charger less complex and therefore more reliable. It is truly a robust, say rocksolid product, equipped with all essential functions, such as dynamic (group) load balancing, solar charging and scheduled charging'.
By carrying out all process steps ourselves, from design to production, Peblar can also react quickly and adequately to changes in the market. ‘This is recognised by customers at home and abroad which makes them want to enter into long-term partnerships with us.’ ‘Our motto is Born ready,’ says Kelder. 'That means our chargers are ready for any future challenge. For instance, when it comes to connectivity, there is a lot to come, the features for that are already integrated into our product, think of the hardware for bi-directional charging and Plug & Charge. We are focusing on compatibility with different ecosystems by continuously investing to integrate our chargers with other partners such as (Home) Energy Management Systems.'
Besides reliable- and future-proof EV chargers, Peblar focuses a lot on safety (‘We go beyond legal standards’) and user-friendliness. Kelder: ‘The starting point is always: how can we make it as pleasant as possible for the user. That starts with a simple installation, but also with an aesthetic design. We realised that we could also outperform other suppliers in this respect. In this respect, our chargers are a stylish addition to both private driveways and business car parks. Much convenience comes from being able to choose between a fixed cable or socket variant. For home charging, you want to eliminate as many operations as possible with a fixed cable variant, on a business car park it is nicer to have the freedom offered by a socket variant.' In those details too, says Kelder, you can recognise Peblar's objectives: ‘They are ambitious and simple: to make the switch to electric driving as easy as possible while producing the most reliable charger on the market.’
